In the face of declining TV ratings, advertiser rates, and empty seats in stadiums across the NFL due to player protests against the American flag and the National Anthem, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is thinking somehow that he deserves a gargantuan salary increase and perks that would make retired U.S. presidents blush.
Roger Goodell, whose contract is up for renewal, is demanding a whopping $50 million annual salary, a huge 60 percent raise over his current annual salary of $30 million. Additionally, Goodell is greedily insisting on the league providing him with a private jet for life, according to a report from ESPN.
As if that’s not enough, to put the icing on the cake, Goodell reportedly has requested the league pay for lifetime health insurance for him and his family. Apparently, he believes that Obamacare wouldn’t be good enough for him or that $50,000,000 wouldn’t be enough to self-insure or purchase his own policy.
Inside sources told ESPN that the NFL’s Compensation Committee will hold a conference call Monday to discuss and further push ahead the proposed extension for commissioner Roger Goodell.
It was reported on November 9, that owners had proposed a contract for Goodell that was largely non-guaranteed and performance-based, and that Goodell was “furious” about it.
Meanwhile, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who is apparently upset that Goodell has allowed Colin Kaepernick to drive the league into the ground, is reportedly organizing a coup to overthrow Roger Goodell.
The Blaze reported on Sunday that over 250,000 people have joined a Facebook group vowing to “Boycott the NFL” this weekend — which included Veteran’s Day — over the ongoing national anthem protests among the players.
“We will be not be watching or listening to NFL games on November 12th in solidarity with veterans around the country, as football players have continued to disrespect the national anthem, the American flag, and everything our nation stands for,” the page says.
KDVR-TV reported that a decorated veteran even turned down the opportunity to be honored tonight during a Denver Broncos game.
Despite the backlash and the fact that it is Veterans Day weekend, Roger Goodell and the NFL Players Association stubbornly insist that there will be no change in the anthem policy. A joint statement from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFLPA on October 11 affirmed:
There has been no change in the current policy regarding the anthem. The agenda will be a continuation of how to make progress on the important social issues that players have vocalized. Everyone who is part of our NFL community has a tremendous respect for our country, our flag, our anthem and our military, and we are coming together to deal with these issues in a civil and constructive way.
Joe Lockhart, formerly paid liar for Democrat Bill Clinton’s administration, the executive vice president of communications for the NFL, denied that Goodell had submitted a written counterproposal worth almost $49.5 million with perks that included lifetime use of a private jet and lifetime health insurance for him and his family.
Joe Lockhart has a long history of working for radical leftists, having previously worked as press secretary for several Democrat politicians, including Walter Mondale, Paul Simon, and Michael Dukakis; as well as being an advisor to John Kerry during his 2004 presidential campaign.
