College football coaching legend Lou Holtz weighed in on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision to not require players to stand for the National Anthem, telling FOX Business host Elizabeth MacDonald on Thursday that the football field should not be used as a “stage for any cause,” and that when players refuse to stand during the anthem they’re sending the message that they’re “against the flag.”
Lou Holtz also opined that Goodell is simply trying to “pacify the owners” who are his boss and pointed out that his contract with the owners will soon expire.
