After a hit piece against a Trump transition team member was exposed as being fake news, three top “journalists” with CNN have resigned, which likely means they were fired on Monday.
Anthony Scaramucci, a successful investor and entrepreneur, was smeared by the network who claimed in a story on June 22, that he met with a Russian investment bank official four days before the Trump inauguration. CNN falsely reported that congressional investigators were curious whether he discussed removing sanctions the United States has imposed against Russia.
But on Friday, CNN publicly apologized to Scaramucci, pulled the story from its website, and issued the following statement:
“On June 22, 2017, CNN.com published a story connecting Anthony Scaramucci with investigations into the Russian Direct Investment Fund. That story did not meet CNN’s editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to the story have been disabled. CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter, a Democrat Party propagandist who has his own problem spreading fake news, announced the “resignations” on Monday, admitting that the fake news story was based only on one “anonymous” source:
Three CNN journalists, including the executive editor in charge of a new investigative unit, have resigned after the publication of a Russia-related article that was retracted.
Thomas Frank, who wrote the story in question; Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the unit; and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN.
“In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story’s publication,” a spokesman said Monday evening. An internal investigation by CNN management found that some standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was published, people briefed on the results of the investigation said.
The story, which reported that Congress was investigating a “Russian investment fund with ties to Trump officials,” cited a single anonymous source.
Showing more grace than many people probably would have shown, Anthony Scaramucci quickly forgave CNN after their admission, stating that they “did the right thing, that he accepted their apology and that he was moving on. He called the apology a “classy move.”
.@CNN did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted. Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on. https://t.co/lyVajCKNHx

As a result of the fake new story, CNN is reportedly changing its rules for covering Russia’s supposed meddling in the 2016 election. An internal memo obtained by BuzzFeed states that no one at the network can publish “any content involving Russia without coming to the CNNMoney executive or CNN vice president.
